In order to apply for this position, you must obtain the following skills and experience:
- Demonstrate specialist knowledge of Electronic Assistive Technology, usually aquired through formal training at Master's degree equivalent level in Clinical Engineering.
- To have specialist knowledge and practical experience of the working practices and theory underpinning Rehabilitation Engineering, Medical Electronics and Medical Equipment Management in order to provide expert advice.
- Demonstrate knowledge, and adhere to, professional standards and clinical guidelines as well as national and local guidelines for clinical practice.
- Maintain working knowledge of the principles of Clinical Governance and their application to professional practice.
- Apply highly developed specialist skills and knowledge in order to maintain professional competence and fitness to practice as a Clinical Scientist.
- Knowledge of and adherence to the Trust and Service policies and procedures, national guidelines; and the professional standards.
- Ability to identify own professional development needs and develop a professional portfolio.
- Up to date knowledge of clinical, social, political and philosophical changes relevant.
- Demonstration of regular maintenance of knowledge through attendance at Special Interest Groups, relevant courses and reading.
- Maintenance with mandatory training in line with Trust policy.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Clinical Scientist include:
- Carry a clinical caseload as part of the multi-disciplinary team.
- Undertaking assessment, giving advice, making recommendations and providing equipment to patients with complex conditions.
- Provide highly specialised Clinical Engineering services to be able to assess and support children and adults with complex physical needs.
- To liaise with multi-disciplinary staff from all referred teams, both in a clinical capacity and an advisory capacity.
- To pursue and advance ongoing knowledge and expertise in your field.
- To work as a member of the clinical team and taking the lead on clinical assessments when appropriate.
- To take lead on and undertake audit and research within your field.
- To work with collegues throughout the region to ensure the best outcome for patients.
- To monitor and evaluate effectiveness using evidence-based practice, and where necessary initiate additional care plans and outcome measure tools.
- To negotiate with carers/clients/others around individual case management, ensuring client involvement.
- To provide written and/or verbal reports that present highly specialist clinical information, which is accessible for carers and/or clients and other professional collegues.
