We are looking to hire candidates to work on challenging engineering problems within our upstream business that focuses on exploration, development, production and marketing and transportation of hydrocarbons. Specific areas of interest for this position include application of computational solid mechanics expertise to tackle a range of problems in the upstream ranging from drilling & subsurface engineering to offshore pipelines and facilities design.
Job Role Responsibilities
Work with computational scientists, engineers and geoscientists to develop, enhance, support and maintain computational tools, models, algorithms and software related to computational mechanics
Build computational mechanics simulations using proprietary and vendor tools to model business problems. Analyze simulation results and develop technical reports and presentations
Design, build and execute parametric studies using simulation models to provide recommendations for business decisions
Create and maintain infrastructure to automate simulation preparation and execution, and to process and analyze simulation results
Contribute to all stages of model development: prototyping, development, testing, deployment, and support
Create tutorials, documentation, training material or case studies
Expected Level of Proficiency
Master’s/Engineering degree from a recognized university in one of the following disciplines: Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related disciplines
Professional work experience in developing, applying computational mechanics models for business applications and developing related algorithms. Minimum one year applied computational mechanics work experience for candidates with Master’s degrees; and minimum two years’ of such experience for candidates with Bachelor’s degrees
Strong knowledge of solid mechanics and finite element methods
Experience in prototyping tools such as MATLAB and Python
Excellent communication skills and experience working in a collaborative environment
Preferred skills:
Previous work experience in the upstream oil and gas industry
One or more of the following technical experiences
fracture modeling using cohesive elements
use of commercial finite element analysis and mesh generation packages (ABAQUS, ANSYS, Elfen, Hypermesh, Patran)
contact modeling for engineering structures having complex geometries
geomechanical modeling
computational geometry and finite element mesh generation
use of advanced finite element methods (e.g. extended finite element method discontinuous Galerkin methods)
development of material constitutive models (e.g. plasticity, creep)
technical software development using C, C++ and C#; software development in Linux environment; knowledge of FORTRAN
