About the role: As part of our product team, our Developers work collaboratively with our development team to design and build functionality for our apps that is usable, extensible, and performant. Our apps are embedded in the Shopify admin, and display in our customers' Shopify stores.
Our developers are experienced with React, Node, and Elixir (no prior Elixir experience is necessary) and contribute across the full stack. At Orbit, we trust our developers to find the right way to build solutions that meet goals.
Following the Shape Up methodology, we give our teams projects, and give them the space and autonomy to design a solution: defining their own tasks, building the solution incrementally and collaboratively, adapting an approach based on the learnings made along the way. As a Developer, you'll: Contribute to all aspects of Shopify app development for our suite of apps, in React, TypeScript, Elixir, and Node.jsMake design & planning decisions as a team, as part of a flexible agile processKeep up with the latest developments in our technologies and in the tools available from Shopify, identifying opportunities to leverage for our appsContribute in improving our development process and practicesUse data (analytics, instrumentation) to track outcomes and guide future workGrow our development team's skills through regular collaboration and mentorshipYou'll bring your skills in: Collaboratively solving problems and sharing knowledge with others when solutions are foundWorking in an agile team environment, regularly making goal-oriented decisions and identifying the most impactful areas to focusHolding context on complex solutions, thinking critically about adapting architecture with new learnings, identifying opportunities to improve along the wayLeaving things better than you found them - advocating for improvements to the team's practices, processes, and tools, to help us reliably deliver quality resultsHelping team members improve their skills & knowledge during the course of the workRequired experience: At least 3 years overall software development experienceProficiency with JavaScript/ES6, React, HTML & CSS, GitIf you have these skills that's a huge plus! Developing on the Shopify platform, or with LiquidDeveloping interfaces with the help of a design system, such as Shopify Polaris, and with accessibility in mindDeveloping for ecommerce on different platforms - Wordpress, BigCommerce, etc.Writing with TypeScript and common frontend JavaScript libraries such as Next, Vue, or AngularExperience with functional programming and interest in learning & writing functional code with ElixirFeel free to include a cover letter with your application – we'd love to better understand your background and experiences.

Our compensation bands reflect the potentially broad range of candidates and experience levels that we are open to hiring for this role. We offer a starting salary from $80,000 -$110,000 CAD for candidates in British Columbia.
The starting salary range does not reflect total compensation, which includes salary, benefits, RRSP, an annual education allowance and other perks. We bring passion and energy to our work, and believe that work should be rewarding, interesting, and come at a sustainable pace.
