The Tax Analyst is responsible for determining the correct taxability of Chevron`s US customers based on the understanding of the State’s tax regulations and the business. Prepares and files excise tax returns for all Chevron`s US legal entities ensuring tax compliance.
Key responsibilities may include but not limited to:
Researches and interprets tax regulation and resource literature to determine customer tax status and answer customers’ and Opco inquiries. Obtains proper exemption certificates to legally support tax analysis.
Sets up and maintains customer taxability in ERP and tax systems.
Performs compensating controls to ensure correct customer taxability.
Extracts, analyzes and summarizes sales, inventory and Opco data from BW reporting system and other sources to prepare excise tax returns and calculate tax liability and file tax returns accordingly.
Reviews and performs analysis of inventory gains/losses.
Serves as a resource to other tax analysts for both tax regulations and tax reporting system.
Generates ad-hoc reports and validates data for Excise Tax Compliance team.
Support Team Lead in the review of regulations and procedures to handle inquiries from internal and external counterparties including Government Agencies.
Required Qualifications:
5 + years of experience within the accounting and/or Tax area.
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
Intermediate Level of English
Preferred Qualifications :
Analytical skills to identify and resolve complex discrepancies or anomalies that frequently have impact in other work groups. Clear understanding of the financial/tax impact of the accounting entries made.
Detail -oriented.
Fluent in ERP/Tax systems or PC applications. Creates ad-hoc reports to support analytical efforts.
Clear oral/written English skills. Leads dialogue with other work teams.
Able to set priorities and manage multiple deadlines.
May serve as point of reference to other tax analysts.
Experience with internal controls practices and compliance topics such as Sarbanes-Oxley testing.
Able to identify and initiate work process improvements.
