The Finance Specialist provides specialized services in financial management and reporting; accounting; grants administration, management and reporting; or similar financial activities for a LARO. S/he has a high level of expertise in his/her area(s) of specialization. S/he administers and maintains finance/accounting activities in accordance with TNC policies and procedures and best practices in financial management. The Finance/Accounting Specialist II provides assistance to staff in his/her specialty area. S/he responds to moderately complex employee/management questions and problems based on advanced knowledge of the subject area.
S/he performs high level financial analysis, compares estimates to actual results,
and recommends corrective action as appropriate. Responsible for the management, maintenance and reporting of specific financial data related to the Region Office and for regional projects that involves more than one business unit, which requires coordination of information related to the projects with other finance peers in the region. This includes annual budget development and quarterly forecast, monitoring and maintaining all financial information and processing of internal financial forms. Provides recommendations related to finances in the overall organizational planning, policy development and implementation. This position coordinates may be involved in analysis and evaluation of special projects as requested. This position reports to the Director of Finance and Operations for Latin America Region Office.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- Coordinates projects.
- Ensures programmatic commitments, TNC policies and procedures, financial standards and legal requirements are met and managed for compliance.
- Reinforces consistency in the organization's policies and procedures and provides support related to relevant field.
- Strong skills of coordination of information related to projects among other business units and should work with a high degree of autonomy on coordinating information and providing information for the Regional Office team
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field and 3 years' related experience or equivalent combination.
- Experience with accounting/financial issues and analysis.
- Experience using accounting and financial reporting systems.
- Fluency in English is required. Fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese is desirable.
- Technical experience with spreadsheet programs, general ledger reports and financial management tools.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese is desirable.
- Ability to manipulate, analyze and interpret data. Advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Accuracy, attention to detail and the ability to multi-task.
- Non-profit accounting experience.
- May require technical expertise on complex accounting/financial issues.
- US government grants accounting experience may be preferred or required.
