Job Description
Primary Duties
This professional will be responsible to implements Regional Medical Affairs activities for Latin America, including helping in the set-up and management of a regional network of external clinical and scientific experts which will be instrumental in advising and supporting the introduction of Takeda’s vaccines in the region
Responsibilities
Plans and executes regional initiatives in Latin America to support license and introduction of Vaccine Business Unit (VBU) products, including efforts to support recommendations in national vaccination schedules and by other influential bodies
Identifies stakeholders, processes, evidence requirements and other drivers to support license and introduction of VBU products in development for countries in the region
Provides medical leadership for Latin America for all aspects of brand strategy, by working closely with the Vaccine Regional Leadership Team (which supports Brazil and the SAM area, which includes Southern Cone, Andean, Central America and Caribbean, Mexico) and other cross-functional teams, and interfacing with LOC medical, policy, market access and key stakeholders
Trains and supports local country affiliate medical staff or designee to introduce global vaccines into respective national programs
Co-ordinates Regional Medical Affairs activities for the region in conjunction with local country affiliate medical staff, including external regional scientific engagement activities such as Scientific Advisory Boards, Closed Scientific Meetings and Symposia at Scientific Conferences. Where appropriate, represents VBU at external meetings including serving as presenter of scientific information|
In conjunction with Global Medical Affairs, ensures that the regional/country medical needs are considered when elaborating Global Medical Affairs strategies (including the need for local and regional epidemiological data and cost-benefit analyses, etc.)
Assists in the development of strategies to obtain national immunization recommendations for countries in the region, in collaboration with other VBU functions, by providing appropriate supporting data (e.g. epidemiological data, cost-benefit analyses, etc.)
By working with the Global, Regional and LOC Ethics and Compliance teams, ensures that the medical activities in the region/countries are compliant with all applicable local and regional regulations and obligations, as well as in line with Takeda’s own Ethical Guidelines and Business Practices, and help ensure that all relevant regional staff are properly trained in these and other Takeda policies
Supports the Immunization Science and Policy team in interactions with external and internal stakeholders including supranational and global organizations (e.g. PAHO, WHO), funding agencies and governments, on public health, medical, scientific, regulatory and vaccine policy issues to ensure ongoing alignment of strategies
Contributes to and is accountable for the development of communications, training and promotional materials for the Region and LOCs.
Supports the publications efforts by providing input to the preparation and the review of scientific publications and review papers
Helps train Global and Local country staff and their designees on VBU products, disease epidemiology, and other product-related issues, to facilitate their launches and to optimize their safe and effective implementation
Acquires business-relevant information through knowledge of the scientific literature, contact with key external stakeholders and through formal advisory board
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
MD or internationally recognized equivalent with 8+ years of medical affairs and/or clinical development experience in the vaccines or pharmaceutical industry
Superior scientific, clinical and managed markets credibility, is articulate, honest, and ethical with high integrity
Proven track record of collaboration, teamwork, coaching/mentorship, timely decision-making and results orientation
Experience and knowledge of vaccine implementation and public health institutions, and practices in and influential in the LATAM region
Experience operating in a vaccine or biologic multinational company environment; international experience helpful
Strong proven collaborative skills in working with multicultural teams and teams representing diverse disciplines in the LATAM region
Ability to comprehend and synthesize complex data with experience in the identification, analysis, and implementation of programs and procedures required to achieve corporate objectives
Ability to influence and work effectively with diverse partners, regions and cultures
Excellent communication with strong written and presentation skills
Excellent organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to work under supervision and independently
