We help the world run better Key Responsibilities & TasksThe Principal Project Manager is responsible for the overall management of a complex project throughout its lifecycle.
They should have relevant qualifications and business acumen to manage large-scale, high-risk, strategic projects that span organizational boundaries, including multiple business units and service partners/vendors.
The Principal Project Manager plays a key role during the Bid Phase of customer engagement, focusing on shaping the overall delivery approach, including methodology, governance, project structure, organization, scoping, estimation, and risk assessment.
The Principal Project Manager provides leadership to the overall team responsible for delivering the project.
Where applicable, they lead junior project managers and support senior Project or Program Managers.
They also partner with Customer and/or Partner Project Management teams.
The key areas of responsibilities of a Principal Project Manager across the project lifecycle include: Before Project Kick-off (Inception):During the sales cycle, they contribute to project structuring and solution reviews, define project scope, schedule, resourcing, and risk assessment, evaluate customer culture and maturity, and help define project deliverables.
They align the project proposal with SAP DBS strategy, contribute to project proposal reviews, and advocate project delivery plans.
From Sales Closure to Project Kick-off:Facilitate a comprehensive sales-to-delivery transition, build trustful relationships with stakeholders, ensure effective onboarding, establish governance, and manage the project kick-off meeting.
They define project success criteria and validate mutual agreement on business outcomes.
During Project Execution (Planning/Executing/Monitoring and Controlling):Ensure effective project management activities, including planning, monitoring, controlling, resource and financial management, scope management, RAID management, deliverable reviews, strategy development, decision facilitation, escalation management, and stakeholder engagement.
This role requires comprehensive leadership, strategic planning, stakeholder management, and risk mitigation skills to ensure successful project delivery.
