As a Certification Engineer you will be dedicated to Argentina Region (Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay) as single contact point responsible to develop regional certification planning and execution. As a regulatory and certification subject matter expert, is responsible for providing guidance throughout GM's Global Vehicle Development Process to establish optimal and innovative approaches for compliance to regulatory and type approval/certification requirements , developing timing and connecting to necessary areas necessary for on-time program launch success. Interpreting regulations, understanding test procedures and impacts into the vehicle certification timing is critical to succeed in this function.
Plan and execute type approval, certification and/or post SORP controls activities for designed programs, working with program team and other stakeholders inside and outside engineering team
Budget planning and control regarding certification activities
Streamline witness testing to reduce costs and minimize impact to test facilities via negotiation with technical agency authorities (propose ideas to reduce number of physical tests).
Interpret and provide spirit-of-the-law understanding about vehicle legal requirements
Negotiation with Government Authorities regarding certification processes, open items or new certification rules under discussion
Maintain/refine documentation database and templates with the latest information to support first time quality type approval/certification effort.
Support product investigations per the established process.
Support regulatory checklist process reviews for assigned programs/markets/regulations at designated milestones.
Work with regulatory colleagues around the globe to develop certification best practices.
Auxiliary Regulatory Correlated activities: Support studies of new regulations on affected vehicle programs from both a component and vehicle system perspective.
Participate in reviews of and update/maintain GM's regulatory database.
Be aware of regulatory communications for assigned regulations to ensure accuracy, completeness, timeliness, and ease of comprehension.
Press for advance notice of future requirements for assigned regulatory areas and assess engineering impact.
Additional Job DescriptionRequirements: Experiencie: +2 years of proven experience in the area. (Automotive Background).
Education: Bachelor Degree in Engineering.
Spanish: Fluent.
Ability to travel occasionally on relatively short notice.
Availability to work hybridly in our offices located in Vicente Lopez, Buenos Aires, Argentina. + Position requires a high level of interpersonal skills and knowledge of multi-disciplinary functions such that interpretations and/or negotiations are clearly communicated to and understood by Government authorities or their designated agencies:
Familiarity with regional/global regulatory requirements.
Familiarity with regional/global certification requirements.
Comprehension of technical engineering, legal and political sides of issues.
Ability to organize and conduct meetings effectively.
Comfortable with dealing with ambiguous and unpredictable situations.
Ability to meet time-sensitive deadlines.
Preferred: Certification/Regulatory or Public Policy experience.
Familiarity with assembly plant processes.
Knowledge of Power BI, SharePoint, Excel (pivot tables, slicers, VBA).
