The Senior Product Manager–Platform will be a leading contributor to product management under the direction of the VP of Product & Platform. They are accountable for enhancing and expanding platform capabilities; ensuring a consistent customer experience; and will assist in strategically aligning the platform roadmap to support both current & future product-lines.
The person in this role is the conscience of our customers – driven to deliver an exceptional digital experience that is rooted in user-centricity. They can gather, synthesize & prioritize platform requirements by crafting effective product briefs backed by sound business rationale & balanced with customer empathy. The Senior Product Manager–Platform will be responsible for platform scalability & delivering large-scale initiatives with precision; be an active member of the software development squads; be a champion for utilizing real data in decision-making; communicate & collaborate exceptionally across a complex organization; identify and track success metrics; and be a leader & mentor on the product management team.
They must be willing and able to pivot towards initiatives or areas that are business-critical and/or revenue generating – bringing consistent professionalism, technical acumen & product management expertise to both short- and long-term assignments.
Responsibilities Strategic Platform Development (40%)
Inform platform strategy to drive revenue & foster growth across the entire product-line
Assist in roadmap planning & ensure that platform development is executed on time and with the highest quality
Advocate for consistency in the user experience in order to foster sustained engagement & retain customers
Build business cases with sound rationale & translate those into clear product requirements documents/briefs by proactively seeking input/feedback
Craft & refine epics and stories (with clear acceptance criteria) to ensure that all agile teams are shipping high-quality deliverables aligned with platform strategy
Engage daily with multiple agile teams & other product managers to spot and manage inter-team dependencies
Provide important business/customer context & real-life scenarios to agile teams to cultivate deep, shared understanding of 'the why'
Refine & rigorously prioritize the product backlog by compiling key sources of input and data from external sources, internal stakeholders & platform metrics
Lead backlog grooming, sprint candidate preparation & formal documentation practices
Flag risks, offer mitigation strategies & weigh pros/cons of trade-off decisions
Be accountable for tracking & reporting out on success metrics for all initiatives and projects
Conscience of the Product (25%)
Be the voice of the customer in the software development process (and identify opportunities for direct customer engagement for the agile teams)
Interact with end-users to obtain real-world knowledge of key challenges & opportunities across a wide range of implementation models
See around corners & solve problems before they become pain points for customers
Develop testing/iteration plans based on quantitative & qualitative approaches
Conduct, synthesize & present user research findings to senior leadership
Cross-functional Communication & Collaboration (20%)
Report on platform development status to a wide range of stakeholders, including at the executive level
Provide proactive, consistent communication & technical knowledge/guidance to all internal teams
Receive & synthesize feedback from internal stakeholders to build & refine the backlog
Engage with content/editorial counterparts to understand production schedules & help support system dependencies
Collaborate closely with internal teams that have customer-facing roles to support product adoption, implementation & customer retention
Platform & Product Quality (15%)
Oversee the User Acceptance Testing (UAT) program for the product management function
Lead pre-release & day-of testing for all releases to ensure that the platform, its features & its product enhancements are customer-ready
Own advanced-level troubleshooting for high-business-impact bugs
Communicate with wider organization about status & path to resolution for urgent issues
Be willing to partner with Customer Success teams for high-profile customer situations
Lead program for knowledge-sharing & training on new/enhanced deliverables that impact the platform or product-line
Qualifications & Experience Education: Bachelor's degree
5-7+ years of product management experience working in SaaS development
Required Knowledge & Skills Attention to detail with ability to connect the dots to the bigger picture
Superior communication skills: can articulate complex technical information in an easy-to-understand way & can get diverse audiences to shared understanding of technical implications and business impact
Track record of executing on new product launches & complex technical initiatives
Expert at demoing the end-to-end experience of the entire product-line
Skilled at operating at a fast pace & managing multiple projects at once
Adept at delivering on tight deadlines with a "can-do" attitude
Proactive at diving into complex trouble-shooting with genuine empathy for end-users
Experience with digital accessibility & compliance requirements
Preferred Qualifications Masters Degree (or advanced certifications)
Certified Scrum Product Owner certification (or equivalent)
Familiarity with video-based platforms
Experience working in educational technology
Working Conditions Full-time remote position
